About Daniel P. Voss, MX

Dan Voss holds a Masters Degree in Engineering (mechanical) from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.  His thesis involved the design, testing, and finite element modeling of automotive seat back systems for reduction of occupant kinematics resulting from rear end impact.  He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the same institution.  He is currently a principal biomechanical engineer for Biomechanical Research and Testing, LLC in Long Beach, CA.  He has been accredited as an accident reconstructionist through ACTAR (Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstructionists).  He performs biomechanical analyses of automotive accidents for purposes of litigation, and has been qualified in court as both an accident reconstruction and biomechanical expert.

Mr. Voss conducts research relating to injury causation mechanisms and human tolerance to impacts and other events.  This includes applied and theoretical biomechanical evaluation of dynamic events.  He performs testing utilizing human subjects as well as human surrogates, recording relevant kinematic data including accelerations and displacements.  He has conducted over 400 vehicle impact tests wherein data was collected from human subjects and/or surrogates.  His research also includes consultation with amusement parks regarding evaluation of attractions for injury potential and anthropometric suitability, and he is a member of the ASTM Committee F-24 on Amusement Rides and Devices.  Mr. Voss conducts fully instrumented tests of rides and attractions using both human subjects and human surrogates.  He has tested roller coasters, water rides, go-karts, and motion platforms for the purposes of design, development, and maintenance evaluations.
